1982 Colnago Super

Can you make this new again?

Brian owned this old girl since new and between riding, racing, travelling and several iterations of storage, she was looking a bit worn. He came in with the bike and a page from the original catalog – hardcopy was a thing back in the day!

He asked if we could restore it to what it looked like in the original catalog.

No problem Brian!

Almost a year and a few dollars later, it looks pretty sweet and was a sensation at the local vintage steel bike ride.

It was also a real pleasure, despite all the time, effort and several set-backs!

Full restoration.
Restoration of 1982 Colnago Super. Bicycle stripped, blasted and spraypainted to match original colourway, decals and clear coat applied. Seatpost cleaned, polished and refitted. Bottom bracket cleaned and greased and refitted. Headset cleaned, polished and refitted, fork and NOS Cinelli stem fitted. New Nisi tubular rims, DT Swiss double butted spokes, original hubs: stripped, cleaned, polished to a high lustre, bearings cleaned and greased, wheels laced and tensioned and tubular gumwall tyres fitted.

The old saddle was looking pretty tired and we were looking for something to make the bike “pop” a bit, so we decided that the Selle San Marco Concor in yellow was the go. This came in a pack with matching bartape, which pretty much sealed the deal!

Looks alright, eh?

Colnago History & Links

Ernesto Colnago opened his first shop in 1954 in Cambiago, Italy. He’d been a promising young rider, but a bad crash shortened that career and he went back to working in bike shops eventually opening his own. He became a highly skilled mechanic and was much sought after by professional teams to maintain and later build their bikes, eventually founding his own brand, Colnago.
