Colnago C64 PJBK

Brian visited us while he was on holidays and left with a great vibe. He came back a few months later and wanted to get a bike fitting and buy a Bianchi Infinito CV. Of course, Brian, no problem.

Unfortunately there was a problem, our bike fitter was off sick and the Infinito was out of stock, which was a bit disappointing for him.

Well, we couldn’t have that, could we? So I lent Brian my C50 and showed him where a couple of good rides were and sent him off for a bit of a jaunt through the fabulous Ballina-Byron hinterland.

“You bastard,” was all he could say when he came back! “That was the most incredible thing I have ever ridden. I’m going to have to think about whether I still want a Bianchi.” Well Brian, before you do anything rash, you’d better take the C60 for a spin.

Well the next day he was just speechless. I knew he would be. I remember how I felt after my first ride on the C60 coming off the C50. I was just blown away.

And so was Brian.

“I think I need to order a C60,” he said. Do you need to consult with other interested parties, namely your wife? “No, I’ve already done that!” OK, well the C60 isn’t a current model, the current bike is the C64, let’s have a look at some colours and see when we can schedule a bike fitting.

Brian popped up from Sydney for a weekend to smash out a bike fitting and choose a colourway. Then we ordered him a frame and started looking at components. In the end we decided on the Shimano Dura Ace 11 Speed Di2 disc groupset with Power Meter and an Enve wheelset. So, he left us with a bundle of loot and we started getting things ordered.

At that time supply was a bit better and we didn’t have to wait too long for the frame and bars, so we were able to start building within a couple of weeks. By the time Brian came back for another little family holiday a couple of months later, his C64 had been looking lovely in my picture frame for a couple of weeks tempting all the passersby!

Brian arrived at the shop in his riding kit and after a quick double check of his seat position, he was off. When we saw him a few hours later he had a massive smile on his face.

Just the outcome I want to see!

Colnago History & Links

Ernesto Colnago opened his first shop in 1954 in Cambiago, Italy. He’d been a promising young rider, but a bad crash shortened that career and he went back to working in bike shops eventually opening his own. He became a highly skilled mechanic and was much sought after by professional teams to maintain and later build their bikes, eventually founding his own brand, Colnago.
