Vintage Steel – Heritage and Craftsmanship

If you’re a fan of any sport, over time you develop memories of great performances, particularly of your favorite athlete and it’s great to relive those moments. As we know, cycling can be a hard and unforgiving sport, which makes those great moments even more memorable.

In reliving them, we want to capture every aspect, the rider the team the bike and so on, and also as we know, there are some beautiful bikes. Some are works of art, some are millstones in the history of bicycle technology and some are the faithful workhorses of the peloton and for each of us there is something in one of those that speaks to us personally. And that’s what we love.

For me, the journey started with Miguel Indurain. I was such a huge fan, but somewhere along the line I found myself on an old Colnago Mexico and so a long love affair began, reinforced regularly by the likes of Johann Museeuw, Andrea Tafi, Tom Steels, Frank Vandenbrouke, Tony Rominger and an incredible 1,2,3 at Paris-Roubaix in 1996!

So, if you have a passion for the great rides and great riders of an earlier era and the beauty, craftsmanship and longevity of the classic steel frames, the Ballina Bicycle Club runs a Vintage Steel ride on the third Sunday of every month.

And at The Bicycle Emporium can help you get your bike running or even find you a bike from our ongoing projects and restorations that you can check out here
