1976 Ti-Raleigh Europa

Alec emailed me one day with photos of a very sad looking Raleigh, “This is the bike I rode when I was at Uni and I would really love to restore it.”

“Leave it with me Alec, I’ll see what I can do.”

We thought about putting a more modern groupset on it, but eventually there were too many compatibility issues and we decided to look for a period correct groupset.

The groupset on this frame came off a 1978 Carlton found complete in a shed in western Victoria.

Six months later, the complete bike delivered to Alec, who was at a loss for words!

This was one of my first full restorations back to what it would have been new. These are by far the most challenging in terms of finding the parts to do it accurately. And I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so there is often a lot of heartache involved.
